You wait for a launch event, then three turn up at once!
MyBnk fired the starting pistol for another action packed Global Money Week with extra special financial education jamborees at The British Museum, Innovate Finance and The European Federation of Bankers.
300 young people from schools across the UK were distracted from the mummies at London’s British Museum to tackle money facts and myths, budgeting and pensions. MyBnk’s mission was to get students saving, showing them, how, why and where we deposit our cash. We plotted a Route to Success for Saving:
- Identify a saving.
- Prioritise spending.
- Manage £.
- DIY. It is all down to you.
We also demonstrated how we could maximise our savings by stashing £100 every month and doing different things with it (like using an ISA) would perform over one, five and 30 years.
Innovate Finance
Over at London’s Guildhall, our young people revealed the future of banking to it’s world leaders at Innovate Finance.
The Next Generation debate with CO-CEO Lily Lapenna and MyBnk Youth Ambassador and founder of Supa Tuck, Bejay Mulenga, examined whether financial education for young people can create a new generation that manages money better and whether new payment tools and financial services for young people can influence their relationship with money. Video soon!
We were also front row in Brussels for a gathering of the European Federation of Banking. The European Money Week roundtable examined policy, National Curriculum’s and the role central banks can play in supporting financial education.
Back on the frontline, we led with Money Twist workshopsat Saltash Community School in Cornwall. Students immersed themselves in the history of money, gained practical skills like budgeting and connected the dots of personal finance to public finance. Pupils at Woodford County High, London went all Dragons Den in Back My Business. They decided which out of 200 students enterprise loan applications receive MyBnk interest free loans and business backing. Live market day to follow!
Saving & debt
There were also some mega entries to the special Demotivator competition – the contest is open all week so head to the game zone to have a shout at some top top prizes!
Finally, we delivered 1-2-1, free, confidential and expert-led Money Advice Service sessions to young people at the Peabody Trust’s Hugh Cubitt centre addressing debt and life choices.
Tomorrow, things go MEGA with over a dozen programmes delivered directly to young people up and down the land covering university living, youth-led saving banks and enterprise challenges.
We are even delivering to a school from Barcelona, in London!
