Last Friday Team MyBnk decamped to Baden-Powell House, South Kensington, opposite the dinosaurs at the Natural History Museum, for the National Council of Voluntary Youth Services Showcase!

We’re shortlisted for their Young Partners Award along with Hungerford’s Wired Rock Cafe, who provide music space and development and Aik Saath, who work towards community cohesion in Slough.

It was our chance to show how young people are at the heart of who we are and what we do, make new pals and find out how you balance 12 nails on a single nail.

In-between The Challenge Network’s human pyramids and some Speed Dating, there was serious open space hot seat debate time – bringing together diverse experiences and objectives through the prism of cuts and riots.

Around 15 youth workers from across the south rolled up to see intrepid money maestro, Lisa Nolan, cram four years of youth participation into a one hour workshop – from young people sitting in on recruitment, running microfinance schemes, doing work experience and building elements of education programmes to coming up with our name!

One of those programmes, Money Twist gave us a nice excuse for some Banker, Saver, Borrower role play (role play is fun), plus, we couldn’t have a MyBnk session without a Money Poem:

“Money is like a dark cave
Deep underground
You lose yourself
There, you can lose your friends.”

Ooooooh.

Not a bad days work in all, we had excellent response not to mention lots of missing MyBnk pens and coins (Aik Saath, cough! cough!) and chatting to Vinspired about reVamping YAPs got the nuggets working.

It was great to see so many young passionate people full of energy, working towards the same goal but coming from different angles, all very deserving winners.

So, til October, where we all meet again for awards night….
