A 2021 round up, thank you and new year message from MyBnk CEO, Guy Rigden

I would like to thank you for your support in helping us forge a new financially capable generation of young people in 2021.

It has been another challenging, but exciting year, helping nearly 20,000 5-25 year olds manage their money and prepare for independent living in workshops across UK schools and youth organisations.

From backing frontline delivery to shaping our research and attending events, your help has been invaluable and we look forward to working with you in 2022.

2021 highlights

  • Focus – 79% of MyBnk’s work is now with vulnerable young people. Despite the pandemic, we continued to reach these cohorts, providing virtual alternatives on Zoom and through online resources including money guides, tools and videos. Find out more about our support for young Londoners during the pandemic in a special MyBnk feature in The Big Issue.

LHF-London Homelessness Awards 2021-Union Chapel

Youth homelessness – The Money Houseour specialist programme for young people moving into social housing, won first prize at the London Homelessness Awards. The project teaches care leavers and vulnerable young adults how to manage their tenancies and has seen a 64% drop in evictions for those at risk of becoming homeless. This year The New Economics Foundation found the project generates up to £2.92 for every £1 invested. • Deprivation – Together, with independent evaluators Substance and the Centre for Financial Capability, MyBnk found worrying links between the high deprivation and low financial capability of 7-11 year olds. The study also found young people most in need benefit most from expert-led intervention.
  • Anti-racism – We continued work to become an actively anti-racist organisation, with compulsory staff training and plan further efforts via MyBnk’s Anti-Racism Committee.
  • Expansion – This year we laid the foundations of Vision 2024, a strategic plan to transform our work with young people. In 2022 this includes new locations for The Money House project in Glasgow and Birmingham and an enhanced presence in existing UK Hubs in the South and North West of England.

Finally, we’d like to wish you a restful festive period and a very Happy New Year. We hope to see you again in 2022.
