MyBnk is excited to run a group trip for fundraisers to take on the National Three Peaks Challenge from 27-29th June 2025. This epic charity challenge sees participants climb the 3 highest mountains in the UK over 24 hours.

Starting at the crack of dawn at Scotland’s Ben Nevis (1,344m), you’ll then travel to the Lake District in England to tackle Scafell Pike (978m) at night before completing the challenge with Wales’s infamous peak, Snowdon (1,085m). Climbers travel in designated coaches between mountains and are accompanied by experienced tour guides throughout.

Curious to hear from previous participants who have completed the challenge? Read on to hear how Jen, Rob, and James from our corporate partners, Isio, found the challenge and raised over £4000 for MyBnk!

What motivated you take on this challenge?

Jen: This challenge isn’t something I normally would have done, but I knew it would be a good way to raise funds and awareness for MyBnk. And in a lot of ways getting on top of your finances can feel like climbing a mountain: it’s overwhelming from the bottom, but if you have a guide who can suggest a pace and a route, it becomes much more manageable!

Rob: I’m a keen walker and the Three Peaks is a well-known hiking challenge. That said, there needs to be a good reason to attempt it all in just one day. The opportunity to attempt the challenge and raise money for MyBnk was too good to miss.

James: As someone who likes a bit of a challenge, completing the Three Peaks was always on my bucket list. When the opportunity came along to be part of a team effort (with buses provided!) and to do it for a great cause like MyBnk it was too good to pass up.

How did you prepare physically and mentally?

Jen: Well, there aren’t too many mountains in London, so I upped my running and cycling in the hopes of at least being at a good level of fitness! We did seek out a few hills for practice walks too — I really enjoyed spending time with my fellow hikers and it definitely helped my confidence.

Rob: In retrospect, the mental part was the hardest. It was really important to do this with the right people. We knew there would be tough times over the course of the weekend and so we had to be able to rely on one another. Physically, we did a couple of long practice walks together and I did some sneaky extra practice with my wife in Snowdonia.

Can you share some of the most memorable moments or experiences you had during the climbs?

Rob: The highlight has to be climbing to the summit of Scafell Pike just as the sun was rising. We could see for miles and the sunrise was not only beautiful, but much needed after experiencing a wet and windy Ben Nevis.

James: Without doubt, peaking Scafell Pike at sunrise. We were so lucky that it was such a beautifully clear day and could see for miles and enjoy a special (and quiet) moment as a small group. And clearly just doing the challenge with a great group, and Rob and Jen in particular, and raising money for MyBnk at the same time.

Jen: The physical challenges were predictable but there were also some logistical issues like a minibus breaking down, and a pot of jam exploding in my bag…

Rob: Whilst the walking element was tough, by far the bigger challenge was the lack of sleep and the sheer amount of time spent on quite a cramped minibus — often in wet gear and with no room to spread out!

James: It really was just the travel. We were one bus short, so travelling was particularly cramped. Whilst I never expected to get much sleep over the 24 hours, being so cramped on a bus (sometimes in very wet clothes) was not that pleasant.

What advice would you give to someone who is considering a similar charity challenge for MyBnk?

Jen: Bring plenty of food; a mix of savoury and sweet, like peanut butter and jam sandwiches — but buy a brand of jam that stays sealed!

Rob: Go for it! Not only is the challenge something great to accomplish, but you also realise how much support your friends, family, and colleagues are willing to give you. Whether this was via donations, words of wisdom, or just messages of good luck.

James: Definitely do it! It’s great to do something for yourself, but knowing you are supported by a great group of people and doing it for a good cause makes it a win-win all round.

Why do you think it’s important to raise money towards financial education for children and young people?

Jen: I’m a big supporter of MyBnk’s work towards financial freedom. Through my work and personal life, I’ve met many people who would have benefitted from financial education when they were younger. Helping people form good money habits early sets them up for a more positive future.

Rob: With two young boys I see firsthand how important it is for them to learn the basics of earning and then budgeting money. I still remember the joy on my eldest’s face when he had finally saved up for that special Lego set.

James: The earlier we can introduce financial education the better. I was always good at maths at school and I did a Maths degree but the first day on my job was the first time I’d ever been introduced to interest rates in an academic setting. Understanding money and interest rates is far more important and practical than trigonometry and differential equations.

For those who aren’t mathematically minded or might not get the opportunities at school, giving them the support to be able to understand the fundamentals around finance is crucially important. MyBnk and its partners (like Isio) can make such a different to supporting children and young people. I was so pleased that we had the opportunity to raise a little money from the Three Peaks Challenge to support MyBnk.
