MyBnk welcomes new Prime Minister Rishi Sunak

As Rishi Sunak becomes Prime Minister of the UK, MyBnk congratulates him in his new role and looks forward to working with him again to improve the financial capability of young people across the UK.

Rishi Sunak was formerly Chancellor of the Exchequer – the government’s chief financial minister in charge of increasing the country’s revenue through borrowing, taxes and managing public spending. Following Liz Truss’ resignation last week, Mr Sunak won the leadership election and is now Prime Minister.

Earlier this year Mr Sunak visited a primary school in his constituency, Richmond Yorks, and assisted one of our Money Twist programmes for Global Money Week 2022. He witnessed how MyBnk’s Money Twist programme works: building positive money mindsets from an early age and improving the financial understanding of future generations, helping children become informed consumers, savvy savers and mindful spenders.

Not only did children learn the importance of setting saving goals, having a bank account and developing positive money habits in general for the future, but they also had the opportunity to hear from Mr Sunak himself what his role involved as Chancellor of the Exchequer and ask him questions.

In his new role, Rishi Sunak must ensure that all young people receive meaningful, engaging and effective financial education. MyBnk calls on the government to extend its financial education ambitions to reach all young people by 2030 and are ready to work with the Prime Minister and MPs to make this happen.
